Filling up an Advent Calendar

Advent calendars overflow with all kinds of good things: chocolate, jokes, little gifts, Christmas activity suggestions.

Alongside the sweets and the toys and the notes, advent calendars can be a great tool for helping us reflect on God’s word, and the amazing things that Jesus has done. It’s easy to fill your advent calendar with bible passages or devotional material, and there are plenty of fantastic resources out there. Here are some that have caught our attention:

LostBumbleBee’s Postcards
Twenty five free printables, with daily bible readings from Old Testament prophecies, John the Baptist and the Christmas narratives. They are delightful!

Richard Baukham’s Advent Haiku
These twenty four Haiku draw from every book of the Old Testament (in their original Hebrew order) to turn our eyes to the coming Messiah.

Jessica Lynette’s Genealogy of Jesus Devotional
Twenty five reflections on God’s character based on various people from Jesus’ family tree. We really like the postcard-sized word art graphics for each day, they would be great to incorporate into a calendar.
